Beta Chi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Scholarship in Memory of Dixie J. Bartlett Slater

After earning a Bachelor of Education degree from Bowling Green State University, Dixie J. Bartlett Slater pursued her lifelong passion to teach young children. She began her career teaching Elementary Education in Ohio and later moved to South Carolina where she continued teaching as she pursued a Master of Education degree from Winthrop Colege. Later moving to Altamonte Springs, Florida, she continued teaching in Seminole County Public Schools and ultimately became a beloved and devoted guidance counselor. After retirement, she continued to serve in the schools to visit “her kids” telling stories and entertaining with puppets. Throughout her life, Dixie was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Key Women Educators. This scholarship honors Dixie’s legacy by providing tuition and book assistance to female students pursuing a degree in Education. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating financial need. Scholarship recipients must be willing to meet the donor and attend at least one Beta Chi Chapter meeting.
